The Vine Story

A Pub with Deep Local Roots

The Vine at Pittshill is more than just a pub, it’s a cherished part of Tunstall’s social history. This traditional Victorian back-street local has welcomed generations of locals through its doors, offering a cosy, unpretentious atmosphere that reflects the character of Pittshill itself.

The Sid & Ida Years

For many years, The Vine was lovingly run by Sid and Ida, who became well known and much respected figures in the community. Under their stewardship, the pub remained a true local — a place for real conversation, familiar faces and a well-kept pint. Their dedication helped preserve the authentic layout and spirit of The Vine, something still felt today.

Closure During COVID

Like so many traditional pubs across the country, The Vine faced difficult times during the COVID-19 pandemic. Forced closures and ongoing uncertainty meant the pub shut its doors, and following Sid’s passing, its future became unclear. For a while, it looked as though this historic local might be lost for good.

A New Chapter Begins

In 2025, a new chapter started when local owners stepped in with a clear aim: to bring The Vine back to life while respecting its heritage. After purchasing the pub, significant work was carried out to repair, restore and make the building fully operational again — always with care taken to protect its original character.

Restored, Reopened & Recognised

When The Vine reopened in 2025, it was met with genuine excitement from the local community. Old regulars returned, new faces discovered it for the first time, and the pub once again became a place for shared stories, laughter and connection. Just five months after reopening, The Vine was proud to be awarded first place for the prestigious CAMRA National Heritage Award, along with CAMRA Pub of the Year 2025 – Bronze Award, a remarkable recognition of the care, quality and community spirit that defines the pub.

Looking Forward

Today, The Vine stands as a celebration of both past and present, honouring the legacy of those who came before while creating new memories for the future. Whether you’re popping in for a quiet pint, joining us for one of our many events or simply enjoying good company, you’ll always find a warm welcome at The Vine Pittshill Pub.
